Chaitanya Mahaprabhu

https://rhymings.com/chaitanya-mahaprabhu/o-name-stream-down-in-moonlight/

Chant the Name of the Lord and his glory unceasingly,
That the mirror of the heart may be wiped clean
And quenched that mighty forest fire,
Worldly lust, raging furiously within.

O Name, stream down in moonlight on the lotus heart,
Opening its cup to knowledge of thyself.
O self, drown deep in the waves of his bliss,
Chanting his Name continually,
Tasting his nectar at every step,
Bathing in his Name, that bath for weary souls.
In each and every Name thy power resides.
No times are set, no rites are needful,
For chanting of thy Name,
So vast is thy mercy.
‘In the kadamba grove what man is (that) standing?
What sort of word coming is this:
the plough of whose meaning has penetrated startlingly the path of hearing?
With a hint of union, with its manner of penetrating
making one well-nigh mad:
My mind is agitated,
it cannot be still,
streams flow from my eyes:
I know not what manner of man
it is who utters such words:
I see him not, my heart is perturbed,
I cannot stay in the house:
My soul rests not,
it flutters to and fro in hope of seeing him:
When she sees him,
she will find her soul, quoth Urdbab Dâs.’

"When will there be eruptions on my body as soon as I chant the name of Lord Chaitanya,
and when will there be incessant torrents of tears as soon as I chant the holy names Hare Krishna?
When will Lord Nityananda be merciful toward me and free me from all desires for material enjoyment? When will my mind be completely freed from all contamination of desires for material pleasure? Only at that time will it be possible for me to understand Vrindavana
......

Lord Caitanya instructed the mass of people in the sankhya philosophy of acintya-bhedabheda-tattva, which maintains that the Supreme Lord is simultaneously one with and different from His creation. Lord Caitanya taught this philosophy through the chanting of the holy name of the Lord. He taught that the holy name of the Lord is the sound incarnation of the Lord and that since the Lord is the absolute whole, there is no difference between His holy name and His transcendental form. Thus by chanting the holy name of the Lord one can directly associate with the Supreme Lord by sound vibration. As one practices this sound vibration, he passes through three stages of development: the offensive stage, the clearing stage and the transcendental stage. In the offensive stage one may desire all kinds of material happiness, but in the second stage one becomes clear of all material contamination. When one is situated on the transcendental stage, he attains the most coveted position--the stage of loving God. Lord Caitanya taught that this is the highest stage of perfection for human beings.

Namdev Poems

https://www.hindi-kavita.com/HindiShabadSantNamdev.php

One who recognizes the Supreme Lord God, dislikes other desires.

He focuses his consciousness on the Lord's devotional worship, and keeps his mind free of anxiety.

O my mind, how will you cross over the world-ocean, if you are filled with the water of corruption?

Gazing upon the falseness of Maya, you have gone astray, O my mind.

Meditate and vibrate upon the Lord, O my mind, and you shall obtain the state of Nirvaanaa.

You shall not have to come and go in reincarnation any longer

You created all, and You lead them astray in doubt.

They alone understand, unto whom You give understanding.

Meeting the True Guru, doubt is dispelled.

Who else should I worship? I can see no other

.....

ramana:

association with unmanifest Sat = ultimate
but very few can do that.
Hence second best : association with manifest sat = guru
ref: silence be as you are ramana maharshi 19:00

Guru pushes the mind of the disciple inside.

He draws the Inward bent mind into the heart..21:00

..introversion results ...Then Sat is revealed.

.......

As the path of a bird's flight across the sky cannot be seen,

and the path of a fish through the water cannot be seen;

As the mirage leads one to mistake the sky for a pitcher filled with water -

so is God, the Lord and Master of Namdev, who fits these three comparisons. |

....

Meeting the Divine True Guru, I merge into the sound current of the Naad

Where the dazzling white light is seen,

there the unstruck sound current of the Shabad resounds

One's light merges in the Light;

by Guru's Grace, I know this.

The jewels are in the treasure chamber of the heart-lotus.

They sparkle and glitter like lightning.

The Lord is near at hand, not far away.

He is totally permeating and pervading in my soul.

Where the light of the undying sun shines,

the light of burning lamps seems insignificant.

By Guru's Grace, I know this.

Servant Naam Dayv is absorbed in the Celestial Lord.

..

My carpenter is the Support of the breath of life.

This carpenter demands the wages of love, if someone wants Him to build their house.

When one breaks his ties with all the people and relatives, then the carpenter comes of His own accord.

I cannot describe such a carpenter, who is contained in everything, everywhere.

The mute tastes the most sublime ambrosial nectar, but if you ask him to describe it, he cannot.

....

if one contemplates the essence of reality.

I have met my Beloved Lord.

Meeting with Him, my body is made beauteous and sublime.

Touching the philosopher's stone, I have been transformed into gold.

I have threaded the jewels into my mouth and mind

I love Him as my own, and my doubt has been dispelled.

Seeking the Guru's guidance, my mind is content.

.............

Swami Tapovan :

Let  no one be under the illusion that the Direct Perception of Para-bramha who has no form and no attributes, alone leads to salvation.
..

So also the bhakta hates all interruptions, distractions which break up his continous contemplation of the lord, whom he loves most intensely.

......

enough intelligence and some purity of mind ..to work for realsn of brmha

..............

I have brought the ten sensory organs under my control, and erased every trace of the five thieves.

I have filled the seventy-two thousand nerve channels with Ambrosial Nectar, and drained out the poison.

....

I shall not come into the world again.

I chant the Ambrosial Bani of the Word from the depths of my heart, and I have instructed my soul.

I fell at the Guru's feet and begged of Him; with the mighty axe, I have chopped off emotional attachment.

Turning away from the world, I have become the servant of the Saints; I fear no one except the Lord's devotees.

I shall be released from this world, when I stop clinging to Maya.

Maya is the name of the power which causes us to be born.

Renouncing it, we obtain the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan.

That humble being, who performs devotional worship in this way, is rid of all fear.

Says Naam Dev, why are you wandering around out there? This is the way to find the Lord.

As water is very precious in the desert, and the creeper weeds are dear to the camel,

and the tune of the hunter's bell at night is enticing to the deer, so is the Lord to my mind.

As rain is dear to the earth, and the flower's fragrance is dear to the bumble bee,

and the mango is dear to the cuckoo, so is the Lord to my mind.

All the seekers, Siddhas and silent sages seek Him, but only a rare few behold Him.

......

Wandering and roaming around, I have come at last to Your Door.
.......

krishnabai:
Chant the naam continuously and it will seep down to the mind ...and it will become dhyan.

............

Please save me from Maya, the cause of death.

O Lord, You are the Purifier of sinners - this is Your innate nature.

Blessed are those silent sages and humble beings, who meditate on my Lord God.

..........

Some say that He is near, and others say that He is far away.

We might just as well say that the fish climbs out of the water, up the tree.

Why do you speak such nonsense?

One who has found the Lord, keeps quiet about it.

............

Those who become Pandits, religious scholars, recite the Vedas,

but foolish Naam Dev knows only the Lord.

Whose blemishes remain, when one chants the Lord's Name?

Sinners become pure, chanting the Lord's Name.

With the Lord, servant Naam Dayv has come to have faith.

............

The Lord of the Universe, Govind, is within His Saints; Krishna, Shyaam, is in Gokal.

The Lord, Raam, is in Naam Dev. So here they are: Raam, Shyaam, Govind.

..................

I am blind; Your Name, O Creator Lord, is my only anchor and support.

I am poor, and I am meek. Your Name is my only support.

You are ever-present in every presence, within and before me.

Slavery to You is so sublime; Your Name is noble and exalted.

...............

My pain is forgotten, and I have found peace deep within myself

The Guru has blessed me with the ointment of spiritual wisdom.

Without the Lord's Name, life is mindless.

Meditating in remembrance, Naam Dayv has come to know the Lord.

His soul is blended with the Lord, the Life of the World.

Meditate on your Lord, you lazy man!

..............

O man, renounce and abandon all these things.:

(Shtakarmas, pilgrimages, vado-ne avalambaya)

Meditate, meditate in remembrance on the Lord of the Universe.

Meditate, O Naam Dev, and cross over the terrifying world-ocean.

..

The deer is lured by the sound of the hunter's bell;

it loses its life, but it cannot stop thinking about it.

In the same way, I look upon my Lord.

I will not abandon my Lord, and turn my thoughts to another.

As the fisherman looks upon the fish,

and the goldsmith looks upon the gold he fashions

As the man driven by sex looks upon another man's wife,

and the gambler looks upon the throwing of the dice

In the same way, wherever Naam Dev looks, he sees the Lord.

Naam Dev meditates continuously on the Feet of the Lord.

...

I have been transformed from a mortal being into an angel, in an instant; the True Guru has taught me this.

Born of human flesh, I have conquered the heavens; such is the medicine I was given.

Please place me where You placed Dhroo and Naarad, O my Master

With the Support of Your Name, so many have been saved; this is Naam Dev's understanding.

................

I am restless and unhappy.

Without her calf, the cow is lonely

Without water, the fish writhes in pain.

So is poor Naam Dayv without the Lord's Name.

............

Like the cow's calf, which, when let loose,

sucks at her udders and drinks her milk

So has Naam Dayv found the Lord.

Meeting the Guru, I have seen the Unseen Lord.

As the man driven by sex wants another man's wife,

so does Naam Dayv love the Lord.

As the earth burns in the dazzling sunlight,

so does poor Naam Dayv burn without the Lord's Name.

...

Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, all doubts are dispelled.

Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, you will not be tormented by the Messenger of Death.

...

meditating on Him, fear and suffering are dispelled.

........

The boy takes paper, cuts it and makes a kite, and flies it in the sky.

Talking with his friends, he still keeps his attention on the kite string.

My mind has been pierced by the Name of the Lord,

like the goldsmith, whose attention is held by his work.

The young girl in the city takes a pitcher, and fills it with water.

She laughs, and plays, and talks with her friends, but she keeps her attention focused on the pitcher of water.

The cow is let loose, out of the mansion of the ten gates, to graze in the field.

It grazes up to five miles away, but keeps its attention focused on its calf

There are countless Vedas, Puraanas and Shaastras; I do not sing their songs and hymns.

In the imperishable realm of the Formless Lord, I play the flute of the unstruck sound current.

In the imperishable realm of the Formless Lord, I play the flute of the unstruck sound current.

Becoming detached, I sing the Lord's Praises.

Imbued with the unattached, unstruck Word of the Shabad, I shall go to the home of the Lord, who has no ancestors.

Then, I shall no longer control the breath through the energy channels of the Ida, Pingala and Shushmanaa.

...........

The Guru has shown me the sixty-eight places of pilgrimage within my own heart, where I now take my cleansing bath.

Says Naam Dayv, my consciousness is imbued with the Lord; I am absorbed in the profound state of Samaadhi.

...

Control of the breath and positioning of the tongue, focusing at the third eye and wearing malas of tulsi beads, are all obtained through Guru's Grace.

Naam Dayv prays, this is the supreme essence of reality; the True Guru has inspired this realization.

.....

O hypocrite, renounce and abandon your hypocrisy; do not practice deception.

Constantly, continually, chant the Name of the Lord.

he may make millions of pilgrimages to sacred shrines, or freeze his body in the Himalayas; still, none of these is equal to the worship of the Lord's Name.

He may purify his soul, and give away in charity his body weight in gold; none of these is equal to the worship of the Lord's Name.

Do not harbor anger in your mind, or blame the Messenger of Death;

instead, realize the immaculate state of Nirvaanaa.

..............

Such a lowly outcaste as Naam Dayv has come seeking Your Sanctuary

..........

Meditating on the Sovereign Lord God, who has not been saved?

gazing upon his radiant glory, the Messenger of Death is scared away.

He becomes fearless, and the power of the Lord thunders through him; the pains of birth and death are taken away.

........

O my tongue, I will cut you into a hundred pieces,

if you do not chant the Name of the Lord.

...

O my tongue, be imbued with the Lord's Name.

Meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and imbue yourself with this most excellent color.

O my tongue, other occupations are false.

The state of Nirvaanaa comes only through the Lord's Name.

.............

The performance of countless millions of other devotions

is not equal to even one devotion to the Name of the Lord.

..

Those who do not meditate and dwell on the Lord-

I do not even want to see them.

.

Those whose inner beings are not in harmony with the Lord,

are nothing more than beasts.

.......

This one devotee abides within my heart,

.....

My body and mind are united with my Beloved Lord.

.

Do not engage in any arguments or debates with anyone.

With your tongue, savor the Lord's sublime essence.

Now, I know within my soul, that such an arrangement has been made

I will meet with my Lord by the beat of the drum.

.............

Anyone can praise or slander me.

Naam Dayv has met the Lord.

....

One who meets the Guru, is carried across to the other side.

 ........

As the hungry person loves food,

and the thirsty person is obsessed with water,

and as the fool is attached to his family

just so, the Lord is very dear to Naam Dayv

Naam Dayv is in love with the Lord.

He has naturally and intuitively become detached from the world.

...

Like the woman who falls in love with another man,

and the greedy man who loves only wealth,

and the sexually promiscuous man who loves women and sex,

just so, Naam Dayv is in love with the Lord.

But that alone is real love, which the Lord Himself inspires;

by Guru's Grace, duality is eradicated.

Such love never breaks; through it, the mortal remains merged in the Lord.

Naam Dayv has focused his consciousness on the True Name.

Like the love between the child and its mother,

so is my mind imbued with the Lord.

Prays Naam Dayv, I am in love with the Lord.

The Lord of the Universe abides within my consciousness.

.......

By the Grace of the Divine Guru, one meets the Lord.

By the Grace of the Divine Guru, one is carried across to the other sid

By the Grace of the Divine Guru, one swims across to heaven.

By the Grace of the Divine Guru, one remains dead while yet alive.

True, True, True True, True is the Divine Guru.

False, false, false, false is all other service.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is implanted within

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one does not wander in the ten directions.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, the five demons are kept far away.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one does not die regretting.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one is blessed with the Ambrosial Bani of the Word.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one speaks the Unspoken Speech.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one's body becomes like ambrosial nectar.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one utters and chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one sees the three worlds.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one understands the state of supreme dignity

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one's head is in the Akaashic ethers.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one remains detached forever.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one forsakes the slander of others.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one looks upon good and bad as the same.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, all poison is transformed into fruit.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, skepticism is shattered.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one escapes from the Messenger of Death.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one is not subject to the cycle of reincarnation.

When the Divine Guru grants His Grace, one needs no other place of rest.

.........

The Lord's Lotus Feet abide within my heart.

The mortal will even die for the sake of his wealth;

in the same way, the Saints do not forsake the Lord's Name.

....

Pilgrimages to the Ganges, the Gaya and the Godawari are merely worldly affairs.

If the Lord were totally pleased, then He would let Naam Dayv be His servant.

The tidal waves of greed constantly assault me.

My body is drowning, O Lord.

Please carry me across the world-ocean, O Lord of the Universe

Carry me across, O Beloved Father.

I cannot steer my ship in this storm.

I cannot find the other shore, O Beloved Lord.

Please be merciful, and unite me with the True Guru;

Says Naam Dayv, I do not know how to swim.

Give me Your Arm, give me Your Arm, O Beloved Lord.

.................

Slowly at first, the body-cart loaded with dust starts to move.

Later, it is driven on by the stick.

The body moves along like the ball of dung, driven on by the dung-beetle.

The beloved soul goes down to the pool to wash itself clean.

The washer-man washes, imbued with the Lord's Love.

My mind is imbued with the Lord's Lotus Feet.

Prays Naam Dayv, O Lord, You are All-pervading.

Says Naam Dayv, as is the quality of his soul, so is my love which illuminates him

Please bless me with the gift of devotion, which the humble Saints beg for.

..........

Please bless me with the gift of devotion, which the humble Saints beg for.

so does Naam Dayv's Beloved Lord and Master appear

.......

The mind alone knows the state of the mind; I tell it to the Knowing Lord.

I chant the Name of the Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts - why should I be afraid?

......

My mind is pierced through by the love of the Lord of the World.

This mind is imbued with the Word of the Guru's Shabad, and duality is easily overcome.

That humble being who knows, and meditates on the Supreme Primal Being - his word becomes eternal.

Says Naam Dayv, I have found the Invisible, Wondrous Lord, the Life of the World, within my heart.

The Lord of the Universe appears when the Word of His Shabad is chanted.

God is hidden deep within each and every heart

No one knows the Light of the soul.

Whatever I do, is known to You, Lord.

Whoever abides in the Lord, becomes immortal.

Mirabai and Tulsidas poems

https://allpoetry.com/Mirabai

I am mad with love
And no one understands my plight.
Only the wounded
Understand the agonies of the wounded,
When the fire rages in the heart.
Only the jeweller knows the value of the jewel,
Not the one who lets it go.
In pain I wander from door to door,
But could not find a doctor.
Says Mira: Harken, my Master,
Mira's pain will subside
When Shyam comes as the doctor.

Control of breath or mind ...is not Dnyan.

Performance of nishkama karma, devotion yo God, tapa ..is not Dnyan.

it's all adnyan

Anything related to I consciousness = Adnyan

Without I consciousness = Dnyan.

...............

I am Bramha ...ageless, body-less, death-less bliss.

Enquiry into truth carried out with the help of holy men = chief means of attaining true knowledge.

............

Nevertheless, indifference to  worldly pleasures, control of body and mind, eagerness to attain salvation, places and time without distractions, and other factors are necessary for an intensive search for Truth.

Without these, mind can hardly become calm and one pointed enough to attain truth.

Strange Is The Path When You Offer Love

Do not mention the name of love,
O my simple-minded companion.
Strange is the path
When you offer your love.
Your body is crushed at the first step.

If you want to offer love
Be prepared to cut off your head
And sit on it.
Be like the moth,
Which circles the lamp and offers its body.
Be like the deer, which, on hearing the horn,
Offers its head to the hunter.
Be like the partridge,
Which swallows burning coals
In love of the moon.
Be like the fish
Which yields up its life
When separated from the sea.
Be like the bee,
Entrapped in the closing petals of the lotus.

Mira's lord is the courtly Giridhara.
She says: Offer your mind
To those lotus feet.

Torn In Shreds

Mine is Gopal, the Mountain-Holder; there is no one else.
On his head he wears the peacock-crown: He alone is my husband.
Father, mother, brother, relative: I have none to call my own.
I've forsaken both God, and the family's honor: what should I do?
I've sat near the holy ones, and I've lost shame before the people.
I've torn my scarf into shreds; I'm all wrapped up in a blanket.
I took off my finery of pearls and coral, and strung a garland of wildwood flowers.

With my tears, I watered the creeper of love that I planted;
Now the creeper has grown spread all over, and borne the fruit of bliss.

The churner of the milk churned with great love.
When I took out the butter, no need to drink any buttermilk.
I came for the sake of love-devotion; seeing the world, I wept.
Mira is the maidservant of the Mountain-Holder: now with love He takes me across to the further shore.

Do Not Leave Me

Do not leave me alone, a helpless woman.
My strength, my crown,
I am empty of virtues,
You, the ocean of them.
My heart's music, you help me
In my world-crossing.
You protected the king of the elephants.
You dissolve the fear of the terrified.

Where can I go? Save my honour
For I have dedicated myself to you
And now there is no one else for me.

I Have Found My Guru

I have found a guru in Raidas, he has

given me the pill of knowledge.

I lost the honor of the royal family, I

went astray with the sadhus.

I constantly rise up, go to God’s

temple, and dance, snapping my

fingers.

I don’t follow the norms as an oldest

daughter-in-law, I have thrown

away the veil.

I have taken refuge with the great

guru, and snapped my fingers at

the consequences.

Life In The World

Life in the world is short,
Why shoulder an unnecessary load
Of worldly relationships?
Thy parents gave thee birth in the world,
But the Lord ordained thy fate.
Life passes in getting and spending,
No merit is earned by virtuous deeds.
I will sing the praises of Hari
In the company of the holy men,
Nothing else concerns me.
Mira's Lord is the courtly Giridhara,
She says: Only by Thy power
Have I crossed to the further shore.

O my mind

O my mind,
Worship the lotus feet of the Indestructible One!
Whatever thou seest twixt earth and sky
Will perish.
Why undertake fasts and pilgrimages?
Why engage in philosophical discussions?
Why commit suicide in Banaras?
Take no pride in the body,
It will soon be mingling with the dust.
This life is like the sporting of sparrows,
It will end with the onset of night.
Why don the ochre robe
And leave Home as a sannyasi?
Those who adopt the external garb of a Jogi,
But do not penetrate to the secret,
Are caught again in the net of rebirth.
Mira's Lord is the courtly Giridhara.
Deign to sever, O Master.
All the knots in her heart.

I will sing the praises of Hari

We do not get a human life
Just for the asking.
Birth in a human body
Is the reward for good deeds
In former births.
Life waxes and wanes imperceptibly,
It does not stay long.
The leaf that has once fallen
Does not return to the branch.
Behold the Ocean of Transmigration.
With its swift, irresistible tide.
O Lal Giridhara, O pilot of my soul,
Swiftly conduct my barque to the further shore.
Mira is the slave of Lal Giridhara.
She says: Life lasts but a few days only.

Sleep

Sleep has not visited me the whole night,
Will the dawn ever come?
O my companion,
Once I awoke with a start from a dream.
Now the remembrance from that vision
Never fades.
My life is ebbing as I choke and sigh,
When will the Lord of the Afflicted come
I have lost my senses and gone mad,
But the Lord knows my secret.
He who deals out life and death
knows the secret of Mira's pain

Keep Up Your Promise

Take my arm
and keep up your promise!
They call you the refugeless refuge,
they call you redeemer of outcasts.
Caught in a riptide
in the sea of becoming,
without your support I'm a shipwreck!
You reveal yourself age after age
and free the beggar
from her affliction.

Dark One, Mira is clutching your feet,
at stake is your honor!

Unbreakable

Unbreakable, O Lord,
Is the love
That binds me to You:
Like a diamond,
It breaks the hammer that strikes it.

My heart goes into You
As the polish goes into the gold.
As the lotus lives in its water,
I live in You.

Like the bird
That gazes all night
At the passing moon,
I have lost myself dwelling in You.

O my Beloved - Return.

A Cowherding girl

The plums tasted
sweet to the unlettered desert-tribe girl-
but what manners! To chew into each! She was ungainly,
low-caste, ill mannered and dirty,
but the god took the
fruit she'd been sucking.
Why? She'd knew how to love.
She might not distinquish
splendor from filth

The Dagger

The dagger of love has pierced my heart.
I was going to the river to fetch water,
A golden pitcher on my head.
Hariji has bound me
By the thin thread of love,
And wherever He draws me,
Thither I go.
Mira's Lord is the courtly Giridhara:
This is the nature
Of his dark and beautiful form.

Mira Danced with Ankle Bells

Mira danced with ankle-bells on her feet.

People said Mira was mad; my mother-in-law

said I ruined the family reputation.

Rana sent me a cup of poison and Mira

drank it laughing.

I dedicated my body and soul at the feet of Hari.

I am thirsty for the nectar of the sight of him.

Mira’s lord is Giridhar Nagar; I will

come for refuge to him.
but she'd tasted the nectar of passion.
Might not know any Veda,
but a chariot swept her away-
now she frolics in heaven, esctatically bound
to her god.
The Lord of Fallen Fools, says Mira,
will save anyone
who can practice rapture like that-
I myself in a previous birth
was a cowherding girl
at Gokul.

Mira Danced with Ankle Bells

Mira danced with ankle-bells on her feet.

People said Mira was mad; my mother-in-law

said I ruined the family reputation.

Rana sent me a cup of poison and Mira

drank it laughing.

I dedicated my body and soul at the feet of Hari.

I am thirsty for the nectar of the sight of him.

Mira’s lord is Giridhar Nagar; I will

come for refuge to him.

Come To My Pavilion

Come to my pavilion, O my King.
I have spread a bedmade of
delicately selected buds and blossoms,
And have arrayed myself in bridal garb
From head to toe.
I have been Thy slave during many births,
Thou art the be-all of my existence.
Mira's Lord is Hari, the Indestructible.
Come, grant me Thy sight at once.

Listen

Listen, my friend, this road is the heart opening,

kissing his feet,
resistance broken,
tears all night.
If we could reach the Lord through immersion in water,
I would have asked to be born a fish in this life.
If we could reach Him through nothing but berries and wild nuts
then surely the saints would have been monkeys when they came from the womb!
If we could reach him by munching lettuce and dry leaves
then the goats would surely get to the Holy One before us!

If the worship of stone statues could bring us all the way,
I would have adored a granite mountain years ago.

The Dark One Is Krishna

Thick overhead
clouds of the monsoon,
a delight to this feverish heart.
Season of rain,
season of uncontrolled whispers—-the Dark One's returning!
O swollen heart,
O sky brimming with moisture—-
tongued lightning first
and then thunder,
convulsive spatters of rain
and then wind, chasing the summertime heat.

Mira says: Dark One,
I've waited—-
it's time to take my songs
into the street.

The Arrow of His Glance

Friend, the arrow of his glance struck

my eyes;

Its point pierced my heart (and) his

sweet image entered my soul.

For a long time I have been staying

(here) watching the road, standing

at my house.

My life clings to (my) dark beloved,

(he is) a life-giving herb.

Mira says I am sold into the hands of

Giridhar, but people say I am loose.

Your Slander Is Sweet

Rana, to me your slander is sweet.
Some praise me, some blame me. I
go the other way.

On the narrow path, I found God’s
people. What should I turn back for?

I am learning wisdom among the
wise, and the wicked look at me
with malice.

Mira’s Lord is Giridhar Nagar.
Let the wicked burn in the kitchen fire.

Mira’s God is the lifter of mountains.
I don’t like your strange world, Rana,

A world where there are no holy men,
and all the people are trash.

I have given up ornaments, given up
braiding my hair.

I have given up putting on kajal
(collyrium), and putting my hair up.

Mira’s Lord is Giridhar Nagar; I have
found a perfect bridegroom.

A great Yogi

In my travels I spent time with a great yogi.

Once he said to me.

“Become so still you hear the blood flowing

  through your veins.”

One night as I sat in quiet,

I seemed on the verge of entering a world inside so vast

I know it is the source of

all of

us.

Your Look Of Light

On a sudden,
the sight.
Your look of light
stills all,

stills
all, The curd-pot
falls to the ground.

Parents and
brothers
all call a halt.

Prise out, they say,
this thing from your heart.
You've lost your path.

Says Meera:
Who but you
can see in the dark
of a heart?

Turn Back?

This infamy, O my Prince,
is delicious!
Some revile me,
others applaud,

I simply follow my incomprehensible road.

A razor-thin path

but you meet some good people,
a terrible path but you hear a true word.

Turn back?
Because the wretched stare and see nothing?

O Mira's lord is noble and dark (savala)
and slanderers
rake only themselves
over the coals

Nothing is really mine except Krishna.

Nothing is really mine except Krishna.
O my parents, I have searched the world
And found nothing worthy of love.
Hence I am a stranger amidst my kinfolk
And an exile from their company,
Since I seek the companionship of holy men;
There alone do I feel happy,
In the world I only weep.
I planted the creeper of love
And silently watered it with my tears;
Now it has grown and overspread my dwelling.
You offered me a cup of poison
Which I drank with joy.
Mira is absorbed in contemplation of Krishna,
She is with God and all is well!

O my King, my father, nothing delights me more
Than singing the praises of Krishna.
If thou art wrath,
then keep thy kingdom and thy palace,
For if God is angry, where can I dwell?
Thou didst send me a cup of poison and a black cobra,
Yet in all I saw only Krishna!
Mira is drunk with love, and is wedded to the Lord!

The heart of Mira is entangled
In the beauty of the feet of her Guru;

Nothing else causes her delight!

He enabled her to be happy in the drama of the world;

The Knowledge he gave her dried up
The ocean of being and becoming.

Mira says: My whole world is Shri Krishna;
Now that my gaze is turned inward, I see it clearly

Drink the Nectar

Drink the nectar of the Divine Name, O human! Drink the nectar of the Divine Name!
Leave the bad company, always sit among righteous company. Hearken to the mention of God (for your own sake).
Concupiscence, anger, pride, greed, attachment: wash these out of your consciousness.
Mira's Lord is the Mountain-Holder, the suave lover. Soak yourself in the dye of His colour.

I have found

I have found, yes, I have found the wealth of the Divine Name's gem.
My true guru gave me a priceless thing. With his grace, I accepted it.
I found the capital of my several births; I have lost the whole rest of the world.
No one can spend it, no one can steal it. Day by day it increases one and a quarter times.
On the boat of truth, the boatman was my true guru. I came across the ocean of existence.
Mira's Lord is the Mountain-Holder, the suave lover, of whom I merrily, merrily sing.

The Saffron

The saffron of virtue and contentment
Is dissolved in the water-gun of love and affection.
Pink and red clouds of emotion are flying about,
Limitless colours raining down.
All the covers of the earthen vessel of my body are wide open;
I have thrown away all shame before the world.
Mira's Lord is the Mountain-Holder, the suave lover.
I sacrifice myself in devotion to His lotus feet.

Mine is the Lifter of Mountains

Mine is the lifter of mountains, the

cowherd, and none other.

O sadhus! there is no other—I have seen

the whole world.

I left brothers, I left kindred, I left

all I had.

Sitting near the sadhus, I lost worldly shame.

I looked at the devotees and I was one with

them; I looked at the world and wept.

With tears I watered love’s creeper

and it took root.

I churned the milk, drew out the ghee

and threw away the whey.

Rana sent a cup of poison; I drank it

and stayed ecstatic.

Mira’s attachment is strong—what was to

happen has happened.

O friend, I cannot live without the

delightgiver.

Mother-in-law fights, my sister-in-law

teases,

The Rana remains angry.

They have a watchman sitting at the door,

and a lock fastened on it.

Why should I give up my first love,

the love of my former life?

None else pleases me.

That dark Dweller in Braj

That dark Dweller in Braj
Is my only refuge.
O my companion,

Worldly comfort is an illusion,
As soon you get it, it goes.

I have chosen the Indestructible for my refuge,
Him whom the snake of death
Will not devour.

My Beloved dwells in my heart,
I have actually seen that Abode of Joy.

Mira's Lord is Hari, the Indestructible.
My Lord, I have taken refuge with Thee,
Thy slave.

The Five-Coloured Garment

I am infused in the Lord's hue, O friend.
Pray, get my garment dyed in five colours
so I may go and play in the arbour.
within the alcove I will meet my Master;
Shedding all falsity, I'll sing in joy.

The sun will perish, so too the moon;
Earth and sky will exist no more.
Air and water will also go;
The Eternal alone will there be.

Of surat and nirat make the lamp,

And let thy longing be the wick.

In this lamp pour the oil from love's mart;

Day and night it will keep burning bright.

They write letters whose spouses are afar.
My Beloved resides in my heart;
I need go nowhere to search for Him.

I live not with my parents,
Nor with my in-laws.
Ever do I live in the Word
My Master blessed me with.

Not mine nor thine is this house, O friend;
Mira lives absorbed in the Lord's hue.

Strange Are The Decrees Of Fate

Strange are the decrees of fate.

Behold the large eyes of the deer!
Yet he is forced to roam the forests.

The harsh crane has brilliant plumage,
While the sweet-voiced cuckoo is black.

The rivers flow in pure streams,
But the sea makes them salt.

Fools sit on thrones as kings,
While the wise beg their bread.

Mira's lord is the courtly Giridhara:
The king persecutes the Bhaktas.

I Write Of That Journey

I remember how my mother would hold me.
I would look up at her sometimes and see her weep.

I understand now what was happening.

Love so strong a force
it broke the
cage,

and she disappeared from everything
for a blessed
moment.

All actions have evolved
From the taste of flight;
the hope of freedom
moves our cells
and limbs.

Unable to live on the earth,
Mira ventured out alone in the sky -

I write of that journey
of becoming as
free as
God.

Don't forget love;
it will bring all the madness you need
to unfurl yourself across
the universe.

The Beloved Comes Home

The one I longed for has come home;
The raging fire of separation is quenched.
Now I rejoice with Him, I sing in bliss.

The peacocks at the cloud's roar
Dance with unbound joy;
I rejoice in ecstasy
At the sight of my Beloved.

I am absorbed in His love;
My misery of wandering
In the world has ended.
The lily bursts into bloom
At the sight of the full moon;
Seeing Him, my heart blossoms in joy.
Peace permeates this body of mine;
His arrival has filled my home with bliss.

That very Lord has become my own
Who is ever the redeemer of His devotees.
Mira's heart, scorched by the blaze of separation,
Has become cool and refreshed;
The pain of duality has vanished.
